Grimes, N. (2001). A pocketful of poems. New York, NY: Clarion Books.

Summary:

Tiana has a pocketful of words and uses them to create a haiku. The first word she creates is her name, Tiana. She hangs it on a gold chain and wears it around her neck. The second word, she spelled out the work spring, where she plants it like a seed. The third word she spelled was shower, which refers to the soap and water for the sky. The fourth word is pigeon, and it pecks Tiana is her pocket. It then goes to the words moon, hot, Harlem, caterpillar, homer, pumpkin, snow, angels, gift, and discusses each one. The last and final word is haiku, which is the type of poem that is used in the story.

Strength:

The book gives different examples of haiku poems. This book is really good for an English Language Arts class. The collages that are used to tell the story are fun to see and give the story a better understanding. The students will have a fun reading this book.
