Summary:
Leigh Botts was writing a letter to an author named Mr. Henshaw since he was in 2nd grade. Leigh would write to him every chance he could. Leigh would ask him questions about his books and what he can do to be a good author like him. Mr. Henshaw would respond to his letters by giving him advice and answering all the questions Leigh would ask him. In one of his letters, Leigh tells Mr. Henshaw that he lives with his mom in a mobile home because his parents divorced a while ago. At the end of the book, in one of his last letters, Leigh finally understood that his dad won't ever come back home.
Strength:
The book demonstrates that even though people might seem okay, there are people who are struggling with family problems. In reality, now in days, many children come from broken homes, and this book would help them see that they are not the only ones that are having those problems. It also helps the students understand that no matter if you are a boy, you can have a journal and express the way you feel and help you cope with the situations that they are enduring.
